Graphical User Interface for Discovering Genetic Relationships
PATENT APPLICATION
A spatial interface for understanding genetic relationships through concentric hierarchy.
US20170213127A1 | 2017 | Ancestry.com DNA, LLCInstead of presenting relatives as flat lists or branching trees, individuals are positioned radially around a central user based on degree of genetic relatedness.
Each ring represents a degree of relatedness. Closer relatives appear near the center, while more distant connections extend outward. The result is a spatial model that makes family structure, clustering, and relative distance easier to scan and understand.
Rather than relying on long lists of names, Genetic Rings organizes relatives spatially, helping users more quickly understand where someone fits within the family structure.
Developed as part of AncestryDNA’s exploration of more intuitive representations of genetic relationship data.

Cognitive Foundations for Interaction Design
A selection of graduate work exploring how people see, sort, interpret, remember, and decide. These early studies in human factors helped shape the way I evaluate interfaces, teach design, and think about digital products today.
